Framed Chalkboard - DIY

Lately, I've been noticing these cute little framed chalkboards included in dreamy interior photos, used as props in photo shoots and also many other places. I love the natural, rustic look they have and I recently got the idea to create my own to use as a prop for a photo shoot I did of my best friend and her boyfriend's anniversary. I then found out how extremely easy it is to make one of these, so I thought I would share this little DIY with you all!

Materials:
Picture Frame - You can pick what ever size and type of frame that you would like. I recommend looking for one at a thrift shop, that's where I found mine. Make sure you get a frame with the glass in it. You can get a piece of glass cut for your frame if you want/need to, but I just found it was a lot easier and cheaper to go and find a frame with the glass in it at my local thrift shop!
Chalk Board Paint - I found my paint at home depot, but I'm sure you can find it at any craft stores as well.
Paint Brush - Any size paint brush should be fine!
Chalk - I accidentally forgot to include the chalk in the photo, but it is of course a very important part of the project!

- - -

I found my frame at a thrift shop for only about $2 I believe, and the paint was $10 for the can. This project also barely uses any of the paint, so you can make multiple framed chalkboards with it! The paint brush only costed about $1 and the chalk costed about $2-3, so I would say this is a pretty cheap project, and you'll have extra paint to make more!

Okay, so there's literally only about 3 or 4 steps to this project. Very short and easy. Firstly, you just remove the glass from the frame. It personally took me quite a bit of work to pry off the glass from the frame without breaking it, so a little screw driver came in handy when doing so. After you remove the glass, set it on a piece of cardboard or something that you don't mind getting paint on!

After your glass is on your cardboard, open up that can of paint of paint on your first coat! After that, just let your frame set out for about 3-4 hours, then apply another coat of paint. Repeat this about 3 or 4 times to make sure your chalkboard has a good amount of thickness.

Once this is done and you know that your chalkboard is dry, take a piece of chalk and scribble all over it, sort of as a way of "breaking it in" and making sure you can write on it well. Then just put the frame back on it, and you have your framed chalkboard! Easiest project ever.

This easy little project is great for a prop in a photo shoot, or for random uses around your home. I've really been enjoying writing to-do lists on mine and also cute little messages and quotes. You can also set it up or hang it anywhere in your home and it will look nice! I think they're especially great for kitchens and offices!

Hope you've enjoyed this little DIY. It's nothing fancy, but that's whats good about it, right?

Thanks for reading! ♥

June Inspiration ♥

This month, all of my inspiration is coming from cute rooms and Sex and the City. Lately, while I'm not watching Sex and the City I'm making improvements on my room, and when I'm not making improvements on my room, I'm watching Sex and the City. I've also been sucking down endless caramel iced coffees while I do both. Oh, the perks of living on the same street as a Dunkin Donuts. Ha! Anyways, I'm just so inspired from Sex and the City for some reason. Carrie's life is so fabulous, it's literally my dream life, and I think that's what has gotten me so attached to the show. To live in New York, be a writer, somehow be a part of the fashion scene, going to awesome New York parties, and buying designer shoes all the time...how could anyone not want that life? I've also gotten the random inspiration from photos of lovely rooms and huge closets to organize my own room and closet. I've been going through a lot of my clothes and donating a lot of them, and I plan to try to sell some, too. I've also hung some shelves in my closet for my shoes, so they aren't all stacked up on each other anymore! It's finally all starting to look more organized and neat. I guess spring cleaning came a bit late for me...

Pattern Play

Accessories: Head scarf - Thrifted, Assorted Bracelets - Starry Groove, Earrings - F21, Necklace - Vintage

Wearing: Crop Top - F21 (old), Striped Pinafore - c/o Boohoo, "Larah" Heels - c/o Boohoo

I decided to do a bit of pattern play with my outfit today by mixing stripes, florals and the random print in my head scarf. I also decided to wear my hear up... it was quite a daring day for me! Ha! I've been so obsessed with pinafore dresses lately, and I really fell in love with this one from Boohoo. I've been on a real stripes kick lately, and this lovely pinafore dress is now a new addition to my stripes collection! These little pinafore beauties are so cute for summer, and along with this one, Boohoo really has a great selection of them, and I just want them all!

Also, I wanted to let you all know about how I've been hearing that there's only two more weeks (or less than that, now) of GFC (Google Friend Connect) and Google Reader. As I am still confused about all of this, I would hate for you all to lose touch with my blog, so I'm not going to risk anything. I'm not really for certain though if GFC and GR are going to be gone forever soon or what, but you can still follow me on here, but just in case you still want to see my newest posts, you can follow me on Bloglovin', too. Thank you all for being such wonderful followers! Hope you all have a great weekend! ♥

Summer Green ♥

Modcloth Dress // Seychelles Heels // Warehouse Bag // Modcloth Earrings // ZeroUV Sunglasses // Chloe Perfume

Lately, I've been so inspired by vintage styles again like I used to be. Lately I've felt that I've been getting more modern with my style, which I like, but I feel like I've been starting to lose my "vintage-inspired" look that I love so much. It's all because I just cannot find any vintage clothes when I go thrifting anymore! It's about impossible now! I know there are vintage-inspired clothes online that I can buy, but those are always so expensive, and I am bad about not wanting to spend over $30 on a dress, ha! But I am going to really try to find more vintage clothes when I go out thrifting next, because I just love vintage everything, and I especially love wearing it! I am dreaming about perfect little dresses like the one above, and cute little heels to match. I am especially loving the green color...I don't own much of anything that's green, and that deep, darker green is my favorite. Such a lovely color for summer! ♥

Summer Colors

Boater hat - Target, Denim shirt - Thrifted, Red shorts - Target, Cork wedges - Target, Straw Bag - Thrifted

Today I spent this hot summer day hanging out with my mom and dad for father's day. I had a really great day, and I felt that my outfit was really festive for the summer season! I thrifted my tropical print denim shirt about two years ago, and as much as I love it, I've never felt that I had anything to go with it. But I found these adorable red shorts at Target the other day, and now I finally have something to wear my shirt with! Definitely a nice go-to outfit for scorching hot days like today!

Permanent Vacation

Oversized fedora - F21, Aerosmith crop top - F21, White fringe jacket - c/o Boohoo, Vintage Levis shorts - Thrifted, Red studded booties - c/o Boohoo

In a fun jacket like this, it really is just so hard to keep my arms down by my sides! I've really been eyeing this fringe jacket from Boohoo for a while now, and they were so kind and gifted it to me! It's so rock-n-roll and I love the white for summer, so I just had to have it! I also thought it looked perfect with my new crop top tank from Forever 21... I saw it in the store the other day, and since it's Aerosmith, I just had to get it! What's even better about it is that the back of the tank top is completely lace, which is nothing like any of the other 7 Aerosmith shirts that I own, so that was just another little reason of why I just had to have it! ;)

On an unrelated note, I have to ask a favor from you all! I'm wanting to start working on a few new posts, and I would love some ideas on what you all would like to see! I was thinking about maybe making a FAQ or a Q&A type of thing, because I've been receiving a few questions in my email inbox, and also on twitter. If any of you would be interested in that, feel free to ask me some questions that you would like to see answered on it! I've just been wanting to make some helpful tip-giving posts, or maybe some sort of how-to or tutorial posts? Besides new DIY's (trust me, there will be lots of those this summer!), I don't really know what new posts I'll be putting up yet. So, I wanna know what you all would like to see on my blog! Feel free to leave me a comment, send me an e-mail, or tweet me a question/suggestion @carlymaddox!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Hat - Thrifted, Dress - Urban Outfitters, Heels - Thrifted, Bag - Thrifted

I was out driving around and looking in antique shops with my mom today, and decided that I wanted a bit of a change in scenery for my outfit post today! I bought this dress at Urban Outfitters a few months ago, while they were having their 1/2 off clearance sale, and let me tell you, I really lucked up that day! I usually never shop in Urban Outfitters, because I tend to be very cheap when it comes to clothes, but during their sale I got this dress, my black and white dress that was featured in my last outfit post, a band shirt, and a pair of sandals all for $50! I also looked at the original prices on the tags, and I ended up saving around $150! I am really so happy to have found this dress though, I am such a sucker for dainty little dusty pink dresses! It is so simple, and the detailing around the top is so beautiful. I will definitely be wearing this one a lot during summer! ♥

I'm officially on summer break now, and I thought since I was on summer break that I'd be more productive. Ha! My days and nights so far have consisted of sitting on the couch watching nothing but Sex and the City. I only became really introduced to the show about a month ago, because I watch The Carrie Diaries, and I thought I'd try to watch Sex and the City also. I'm so obsessed now, and that's all I've been doing lately! My outfit today was inspired a lot by Carrie Bradshaw, and her wonderful style! I love how she can really make a simple dress and heels look so fabulous, and so that's what I tried to do with my outfit. I've also been dying for a pair of heeled sandals like these, and a big black leather bag! Now that I have them both, I've been wearing them everywhere, and really loving all of the wonderful compliments I've been receiving! ♥

A Field Guide

Jewelry: Necklace - Vintage, Watch - Target, Bracelets - F21

Wearing: Hat - Thrifted, Dress - F21, Socks - Target, Oxford heels - Target, Vintage Dooney & Bourke - Thrifted

The other day I went to Forever 21 for the first time in almost forever, but I wasn't in there on the mission to do some major shopping. I really hard a hard time resisting the urge to buy everything, because trust me I saw so many cute things! But I did buy this dress and an Aerosmith crop top (had to, obviously), and this dress was definitely love at first sight! To me, I feel like it honestly looks like something maybe a modern day Audrey Hepburn would wear, and I think this because it looks very classic, and mostly because of the tightly-fitted top. I am just so in love with it!

I've also noticed in the past few days the large amount of black and white that I wear. I really want to switch it up, because I truly love colors and wearing them, and when I am shopping I try to buy colorful clothes, but I always seem to be attracted to black and white clothes the most! It may be a problem, but oh well! I've also noticed that almost all of my clothes now are dresses. They're literally all I wear!
